PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ENGAGEMENT AND BENEFITS OF THE TEACHING PERSONNEL

The study examined the physical activity engagements and benefits obtained by the teaching personnel in a private Catholic Institution in Bacolod City, and the relationships between different variables using the correlational research design. It aimed to understand their current physical activity engagement, explore potential benefits of increased activity, address research gaps in physical, and inform the development of interventions to promote physical activity for the well-being of teaching personnel. A total of 140 qualified personnel were eligible to participate, and 103 completed the self-made survey questionnaire, and stratified proportionate sampling was employed to ensure representativeness of the sample. Data were analyzed using the mean score and standard deviation, t-test for independent samples, One-way ANOVA, Post Hoc Games Howell, and Spearman’s rho. The study found no significant differences in physical activity engagement when grouped according to sex and department. However, there was a significant difference in engagement based on age. Similarly, significant differences obtained benefits were found when grouped according to sex, but not by age and department for emotional and mental benefits. The study revealed a significant positive correlation between the physical activity engagement and the extent of benefits experienced by teaching personnel. This suggests a strong association between physical activity engagement and perceived benefits among teaching personnel.

THE EFFECT OF STUDENTS’ USE OF AI IN RESEARCH: TOWARDS POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE RESPONSIBLE USE OF AI IN SCHOOLS

This study investigated the effect of students’ use of AI in research through the lenses of Practical Research (PR) teachers. The Senior High School curriculum has PR1 (Qualitative Research) and PR2 (Quantitative Research), where students are expected to conduct, write, and eventually defend their research. Through an interview, the participants shared how plagiarism and academic honesty are taught in their respective research classes.  They also discussed how the responsible use of AI, and technology in general, in research, is emphasized. The pros and cons of students’ use of AI in writing research and the challenges that come with its emergence were also identified. It was found that the most commonly used AI by students are those that help them paraphrase ideas they want to cite in their papers, as students find it difficult to contextualize their ideas in writing. On the use of AI-writing assistants, it was observed that the PR teachers had mixed sentiments on its utilization in research. However, all of them were aware of both the beneficial and detrimental effects that it may put forth. As such, they also shared the positive and negative implications of such usage and how they determine whether student submissions were AI-written. Although no student admitted using AI to write their paper, the PR teachers were very honest in saying that they find it difficult to verify whether AI writes the submissions they are getting. In response to the findings, policy recommendations were offered to serve as a guide or basis for the teaching of the responsible utilization of AI in schools.

CULTURAL IDENTITY AND HYBRIDITY IN THE INDIAN PSYCHE: A STUDY OF DISPLACEMENT AND NOSTALGIA

This study explores the complex interplay of cultural identity, hybridity, displacement, and nostalgia within the framework of the Indian psyche in postcolonial and globalized contexts. Migration, both voluntary and forced, has historically disrupted traditional notions of belonging, compelling individuals and communities to negotiate their cultural identities across borders. The legacies of colonialism, alongside contemporary forces of globalization, have made hybridity a defining feature of diasporic subjectivities. Drawing on theoretical insights from Homi Bhabha’s concept of the Third Space and Stuart Hall’s view of identity as “in process,” this paper examines how displacement produces fractured identities that oscillate between rooted traditions and the demands of assimilation. Nostalgia emerges as a central response to displacement, preserving cultural memory while simultaneously highlighting the impossibility of return. By analyzing Indian diasporic narratives and postcolonial theory, this research demonstrates that hybridity is not merely a by-product of displacement but also a site of creativity, resilience, and cultural negotiation. The paper argues that the Indian psyche is best understood as a dynamic and adaptive entity, shaped by historical displacements, sustained by nostalgic memory, and transformed through hybrid encounters in transnational spaces.

THE ART OF STORYTELLING: LITERARY TECHNIQUES AND NARRATIVE MODES IN R.K. NARAYAN AND JHUMPA LAHIRI

The art of storytelling serves as a powerful medium through which authors convey cultural values, human experiences, and the complexities of individual identity. This study offers a comparative analysis of the literary techniques and narrative modes employed by two distinguished authors – R.K. Narayan, a pioneer of Indian English literature, and Jhumpa Lahiri, a prominent voice in diasporic writing. While Narayan’s works are rooted in the fictional yet culturally vibrant landscape of Malgudi, capturing the rhythms of traditional Indian life, Lahiri’s narratives often traverse transnational spaces, exploring themes of migration, assimilation, and cultural dislocation. By examining elements such as narrative structure, characterization, point of view, symbolism, and thematic depth, this paper investigates how both authors construct their fictional worlds and engage readers in unique ways. The analysis highlights Narayan’s simplicity of language, understated humor, and episodic storytelling alongside Lahiri’s lyrical prose, intricate emotional landscapes, and fragmented yet intimate narrative style. This comparative approach not only illuminates their individual contributions to the art of storytelling but also situates their works within broader discourses on tradition, modernity, and cultural identity. The study underscores how the interplay of literary technique and narrative mode shapes the reader’s engagement and deepens the interpretive experience.

MODULAR APPROACH AS AN ALTERNATIVE DELIVERY MODE (ADM) IN TEACHING PHYSICAL EDUCATION: PERSPECTIVE FOR CURRICULUM IMPROVEMENT

This study was made to assess the effectiveness of the Modular Approach as an Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) in Teaching Physical Education. It tried to gain some perspectives to improve the implementation of the new curriculum. The researcher identified the teachers’ and students’ engagement, participation, and experiences of the new learning modality in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, it dealt with the role of school administrators, parents, and other stakeholders and how they took part in the implementation of the program. In undertaking the study, the quantitative method of research was employed with the questionnaire as the principal instrument. The survey / questionnaire contained the following themes: (1) the level of participation of students in using the modular learning delivery in this new normal context; (2) the challenges both the teachers and the students encountered in teaching the Physical Education subject using the modules; and (3) the suggested responses for solutions to faced problems and issues regarding the implementation and participation in the use of the learning modules. The teacher respondents were randomly selected from the different public Secondary Schools in the District of Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro composed of forty (40) male and female Physical Education teachers from Grades 7-12 who are taking the modular learning approach.
