BULLSEYE: DOCUMENTING THE VOICES OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ARCHERY ATHLETES
Archery is recognized for its focus and accuracy. It benefits beyond competitive sports, making it a valuable physical education component. The phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of ten archery athletes at General Santos City National High School, examining their physical, mental, and emotional impact. Understanding these experiences, it is essential to comprehend their impact. Through semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis revealed key themes. The findings revealed several key themes. Regarding lived experiences, (3) themes emerged, including archery as a vehicle for personal transformation and identity, the influence of external inspiration and the social environment, and experiential challenges, competitive encounters, and risks. A contextual analysis of these experiences highlighted (6) themes: social and interpersonal connections, personal transformation, growth and self-reflection, emotional landscape and affective responses, bodily changes, joy and positive experiences, challenges, barriers, and issues. Additionally, (2) themes emerged regarding future self-views and aspirations: personal growth and life lessons through archery, and future ambitions and envisioned identity in archery. Archery was a dynamic sport that fostered physical development, mental resilience, social interaction, and personal growth while offering valuable opportunities for skill enhancement and lifelong learning. To maximize its educational impact, it was recommended that schools integrate archery into the curriculum, provide resources and support, train qualified coaches, foster a supportive team environment, involve mentors and parents, and encourage further research to enhance its effectiveness.
