The art of storytelling serves as a powerful medium through which authors convey cultural values, human experiences, and the complexities of individual identity. This study offers a comparative analysis of the literary techniques and narrative modes employed by two distinguished authors – R.K. Narayan, a pioneer of Indian English literature, and Jhumpa Lahiri, a prominent voice in diasporic writing. While Narayan’s works are rooted in the fictional yet culturally vibrant landscape of Malgudi, capturing the rhythms of traditional Indian life, Lahiri’s narratives often traverse transnational spaces, exploring themes of migration, assimilation, and cultural dislocation. By examining elements such as narrative structure, characterization, point of view, symbolism, and thematic depth, this paper investigates how both authors construct their fictional worlds and engage readers in unique ways. The analysis highlights Narayan’s simplicity of language, understated humor, and episodic storytelling alongside Lahiri’s lyrical prose, intricate emotional landscapes, and fragmented yet intimate narrative style. This comparative approach not only illuminates their individual contributions to the art of storytelling but also situates their works within broader discourses on tradition, modernity, and cultural identity. The study underscores how the interplay of literary technique and narrative mode shapes the reader’s engagement and deepens the interpretive experience.
